“Rogue Images is the best in every way. We put a lot of work into finding the best photographer (including an extensive spreadsheet of 42 photographers, broken down by style, price, ratings, etc.) and Rogue Images came out on top. I was initially impressed by their high quality images that aren’t over edited with filters, and Cody’s organization and attention to detail, including telling us how many ways his photos are backed up so we wouldn’t lose them. Also, we felt like Rogue’s prices were great compared to similar photographers in the Indy area. At our engagement shoot, we knew we had picked the right photographer. Cody is fun to be around, and good at giving direction (for those of us that are a little awkward in photos). He made us look like models, knowing exactly how to pose us in a variety of locations. We are so obsessed with our engagement and wedding pictures and so glad we trusted Rogue Images for our big day!!”

Setting the Scene
Nestled along the picturesque downtown canal of Indianapolis stands the majestic Indiana State Museum, a venue that exudes timeless elegance and charm. Recently, we had the pleasure of photographing a truly enchanting wedding at this iconic location, working hand in hand with the talented team at Magical Moments Event Planning to bring the couple's vision to life. Join us as we take you behind the scenes of this unforgettable celebration and delve into the magic of capturing love at the Indiana State Museum.
The Importance of a Day-of Coordinator
One of the keys to a seamless wedding day is having a dedicated day-of coordinator, and the team at Magical Moments Event Planning proved invaluable in ensuring that every detail was executed flawlessly. From coordinating vendor logistics to managing last-minute changes, having a professional coordinator on hand allowed the couple to relax and enjoy their special day without worry.
Embracing Outdoor Photo Locations
One of the highlights of the wedding day was exploring the outdoor photo locations around the Indiana State Museum. From charming cobblestone streets to lush greenery along the canal, the couple delighted in being outside and embraced every photo opportunity with enthusiasm. Despite facing challenges such as wind and nearby events (a Chris Young concert) we were able to capture stunning images that perfectly showcased the beauty of the outdoor surroundings.
Overcoming Challenges
Like any outdoor wedding, we encountered our fair share of challenges throughout the day. From gusts of wind threatening to tousle hair and veils to a nearby concert adding unexpected noise to the atmosphere, we had to think on our feet to ensure that every moment was captured beautifully. With creativity and adaptability, we overcame these obstacles and turned them into opportunities to capture truly unique and memorable photos.
Bridal Fashion: Details on the Dress
The bride's dress (from Blue House Bridal) was a true showstopper, with intricate lace detailing (and SLEEVES!) and a delicate sheer boddess that shimmered in the sunlight. Every detail, from the flowing train, extra long veil, to the elegant silhouette, spoke to the bride's timeless sense of style and sophistication (and even had pockets). As she walked down the aisle, all eyes were on her, and we were honored to capture every breathtaking moment.
Groom's Style: Our Favorite Look
The groom's attire was equally impressive, with a classic white tuxedo that exuded elegance and sophistication. Paired with a crisp white shirt and a sleek black bowtie (that was helped to be tied courtesy of YouTube), he cut a dashing figure as he awaited his bride at the altar. It was a timeless look that perfectly complemented the grandeur of the venue and added to the overall sense of refinement and grace.
Timeless Elegance: Black and White Attire
Throughout the wedding day, the couple and their guests embraced the timeless elegance of black and white attire. From the bridal party's chic ensembles to the groomsmen's sharp suits, every outfit was carefully chosen to evoke a sense of classic sophistication. Against the backdrop of the Indiana State Museum's historic architecture, black and white attire added a touch of old-world charm to the celebration.
Golden Hour Magic
As the sun began to set, we took advantage of the golden hour light to capture some truly magical moments. The warm, ethereal glow cast a romantic ambiance over the entire scene, bathing the couple in a soft, flattering light that made for stunning photos. Against the backdrop of the downtown canal, we captured intimate moments between the newlyweds that will be cherished for a lifetime.
Heartfelt Moments
Throughout the day, there were countless heartfelt moments that added depth and emotion to the celebration. From tearful speeches to private vows exchanged in secluded corners of the venue, each moment was a testament to the love and commitment shared between the couple. As photographers, it was an honor to capture these intimate moments and preserve them for generations to come.
Celebrating Love and Timeless Moments
In conclusion, the wedding at the Indiana State Museum was a true celebration of love and timeless elegance. From the stunning venue to the heartfelt moments shared throughout the day, it was an unforgettable celebration that will be cherished for a lifetime. One of our favorite details from their day was their custom beers from Bier Brewery. Share a few words about your experience working together:
After our engagement session, we knew we had picked the right photographer! Cody gives good direction, stays positive and keeps the energy up, and made the most of our time together, so many pictures and different poses in a short amount of time! We are very happy about the quality of pictures, and Cody is fun to be around as well!
Tell us a little about your story and your day!
We have been together for over 7 years. We met after college while living in the Solana Apartments in Broad Ripple, one building apart. Over the years we have built a life together, already considering each other’s family and friends to be our own. We signed a contract to build a house together in February of 2020. After a few months of uncertainty, we moved in to our home in the downtown Indy area. We have been through a lot together over the years… countless trips together, building a house during the pandemic, changing jobs, a few months of long distance while Kristin did a travel nursing assignment across the country, losing grandparents, losing our favorite little kitty Chalupa last year, getting a puppy a few months ago, and now getting married! Family and friends are so important to us and we were happy to celebrate with everyone on our wedding day. We were filled with joy the entire weekend, surrounded by love ones and are so blessed to have had an absolutely perfect day from start to finish.
What advice would you give to other couples planning their wedding?
Before you do anything, start with figuring out what you want your day to be and what’s important to you. Focus on that, and be prepared for ups and downs. We were lucky to have found vendors that we could completely trust to take us to and through our day.. but honestly we spent a lot of time researching and figuring out who aligned with our priorities.
What was your favorite moment from your day?
Our highlights from our wedding day were reading our vows to each other privately (both of us crying the whole way through), our first dance outside on the terrace of the canal, with our family and friends below, and some amazing speeches by 5 of our favorite people during dinner.
On the note of loving our family and friends, Melinda who did my hair - me, Michael, Michael’s mom and aunts and many other family members go to her regularly for hair appointments. Marc Aronstam, our jeweler has been friends with Michael’s mom since college, and Brian Jackson, our DJ is my parents’ next door neighbor. And we wanted a black and white wedding, and I originally said white florals but I decided to add in light blue, my parents wedding color, and peach, Michael’s parents wedding color.
Our wedding favors were from Hardie’s Honey (Michael’s uncle Brian has bees and sells his honey, and Michael’s sister and dad filled all of the little bears with his honey for us!) We just tried to incorporate family and friends down to the small details!
